There are plenty of Sam Smiths pubs down south with similarly good beers, atmosphere and prices! The Robert Raikes in Gloucester is a great pub with several other good ones around.
Have a similar situation in the US, though we certainly don't have the same pub culture that you guys have. I paid $20 for a Coors Light a few months ago. Decided I would no longer be going to bars after that.
