Georgescu's parents were both party members, they lived in Cotroceni (nomenclaturist area) and he himself was allowed to go abroad to the USA and the UK in the 1980s, a privilege only reserved for those with fantastic party connections and entailed heavy vetting if not recruitment by the Securitate. Sosoaca too did well under socialism, her uncle was the president of the Prahova Tribunal for about 12 years, which obviously meant party member. One of her first jobs was as former personal advisor on legal issues to Eugen Dijmărescu, a party member, collaborator and minister of finance in 1991
