The most pressing example of animal cruelty is Halal Slaughter of livestock. It must be outlawed forthwith. No importation of meat derived from such a barbaric practice should be permitted either.

I agree with your point about halal slaughter being barbaric, but, as another commenter mentioned, kosher slaughter is also vile. There is no difference between the two methods of slaughter, though kosher may be carried out in a slightly more hygienic manner. Going after one but not the other on animal rights' grounds would be hypocritical, and there are other ways in which one can push out the Muslim population without seeming quite as hypocritical (e.g. reforming welfare, selling council housing, RICO style laws to deal with the Pakistani rape gangs etc).

What about kosher?

Yes, typical hypocrisy.

Apart from confusing being posh with living in the countryside you are broadly correct that there’s little mileage in defending fox hunting as a political act.

It won’t be long before they come after fishing, after they have banned shooting.

The fox-hunting ban is pure vindictiveness. It is disgusting that so many people support it.

But fox hunting has been banned - by the 2005 Hunting Act. What is proposed is the banning of riding horses around the countryside following a pack of hounds who are chasing a scented rag. It may be an eccentric hobby but it is morally harmless and the animal welfare issue is non-existent. This really is about liberty.

Really sharp analysis on why the Right keeps losing elections over stuff nobody actually cares about. I saw this exact dynamic play out in my local council race where the Tory candidate kept getting questions about hunting instead of housing or crime. The bit about Reform's C2DE voter base is spot-on becuase these are folks who want practical solutions, not countryside pageantry. If the new Right can't seperate itself from defending rich people's hobbies, it'll just be the old Right with a different logo.

I’m all for culling to preserve the countryside. It’s the needless suffering, turned into sport, that most Brits, including patriotic ones, me included, are against.

I grew up in the countryside & have seen the cruelty up close on a number of occasions.
